AAC Retrospective Exhibit

Kiewit Luminarium | May 10th - June 1st

Each May, we celebrate National Speech-Language-Hearing Month to raise awareness about communication disorders and emphasize the crucial contributions of speech, language, and hearing professionals in creating effective treatment plans. Join TTMT this month in exploring the history and importance of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC), in collaboration with the Munroe-Meyer Institute, Kiewit Luminarium, and the Common Senses Festival.

"I've completed my schooling in this community, worked in hospitals and schools in this community and chose to raise my family in this community! Partnering with the Luminarium and Common Senses Festival is so exciting to bring empathy, break down barriers and instill a little more understanding of AAC to our home in Omaha!"

AAC Retrospective Exhibit

The TTMT module will showcase a collection of speech-generating devices, highlighting both historical and contemporary models. Attendees will have the opportunity to interact with the Grid Pad 13 equipped with eye gaze, offering a hands-on experience with cutting-edge speech-generating technology.

Additionally, the exhibit will feature several communication boards designed to make communication easy and accessible for everyone, everywhere. These boards will educate attendees about the essential core vocabulary available to AAC users and demonstrate the customizable nature of fringe vocabulary, which can be tailored for any environment. This module aims to raise awareness and promote the widespread adoption of AAC, ensuring that all individuals have access to effective communication tools.

The Common Senses Festival

The Common Senses Festival promotes accessibility, amplifies voices, and showcases the arts as a powerful catalyst for cultural change. This year's theme, VOICE, highlights the power of expression, particularly for those who use alternative ways to communicate. By creating platforms for every voice, we build a world that listens, values, and celebrates all forms of expression.
