Introducing new printable Super Core Books

Available now in Grid

We’re excited to introduce our new printable Super Core Books, a flexible, paper-based AAC resource designed to support communication everywhere.

AAC isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution, so we’ve created a variety of printable books to meet different needs. These books are built around the Super Core child vocabulary, combining everyday core words with topic-specific fringe words tailored to different activities and situations.

What's inside?

Printable Super Core Books are available as grid sets in Grid for Windows, free for all Grid users. You can personalize them and print directly from Grid 3, making it easy to create a communication book that suits the AAC user.

There are two cell count options:

Super Core Book: 6×8 cells, similar to Super Core 30 and 50
Super Core Learning Book: 4×6 cells, similar to Super Core Learning

Choose between:

2 sided pages for a compact book
1 sided pages for quicker assembly and easier customization

Step-by-step instructions are available on the Smartbox Hub to guide you through the process.

Once printed and assembled, each grid set becomes a paper-based communication book with 35 to 50 pages, depending on the version. You can add words, symbols and pages and choose the paper, folder and binding that work best for the AAC user.

Designed for easy navigation

Every book keeps core words on the left, always in the same place, while topic words appear on the right, making it easy to build phrases.

Navigation is simple:

A home page and color-coded, symbolized, numbered tabs help you jump to sections like people, places, play and daily activities.
Main section tabs run along the bottom edge.
Sub-section tabs (e.g. singing and building under play) are placed along the side edge.

Quick Talk for fast communication

A binder with communication symbols and a cartoon character illustration.

Each book includes a Quick Talk page for fast, essential messages like "I need help" or "I need space." These phrases can be personalized and are accessible from the core pages. You can place Quick Talk at the back or on the back cover for easy access.

Perfect for modeling AAC

Printable Super Core Books are ideal for modeling – using AAC while speaking naturally. For example:

Say “let’s sing Twinkle Twinkle” while pointing to sing and twinkle.

Ask “do you want a different song?” while modeling want, different, song.

Remember, it’s not a test, it’s a natural way to show how AAC works. Because the books are portable, you can model anywhere: in class, at the park or on vacation.
