Over the past year, we’ve heard from schools, users, special education advocates and other Grid for Schools users across the Smartbox community about how Super Core: See and Say is being used in classrooms. That feedback has shaped the updates we’re excited to share in this new version.

Super Core: See and Say was created as a flexible, accessible way for students to explore Super Core vocabulary, practice language and build confidence communicating in ways that work for them. Through conversations with parents, professionals and AAC users, we’ve seen how this is happening in real life.

“When our local Smartbox representative demonstrated how websites could be integrated into grid sets, we knew we had discovered something valuable. Staff can model and teach with embedded picture icons around pre-existing lessons.”

Now, we’re pleased to re-introduce Super Core: See and Say with a refreshed look. All the features educators already know and rely on are still there, with the same Super Core vocabulary, alongside updates designed to improve the overall user experience.

Now available in Grid 3

You can find Super Core: See and Say by going to:

Add grid sets > Education > Super Core: See and Say Version 2

Super Core: See and Say was developed specifically for interactive whiteboard use and is therefore only available on Windows devices running Grid 3.

Updated user interface

The updated interface is cleaner and clearer, helping users focus on communication rather than navigation. These visual changes are subtle but intentional, making the grid set easier to explore and more intuitive to use across different environments.

New full screen mode

The new full-screen mode allows the browser to fill the screen, reducing distractions and making the content you’re sharing easier to see. This is particularly helpful for users who benefit from a larger, more immersive display, whether they are learning at home or in classroom settings.

Symoji now available in the grid set

Another exciting update is the ability to use Symoji in the grid set. Symojis give users more choice and flexibility in how they express themselves by offering a quick, visual way to add emotion, intent, or response to communication. They can help students react, engage, and participate, particularly in moments where accessing more complex language feels harder.

Built-in tools to support learning and confidence

As part of this update, we’ve added new resources to help you make the most of See and Say. We hope that these will support ongoing learning – whether you’re new to See and Say or have used it in the past as a staple in your classroom.

These resources include:

Google Slides that walk through setup and editing, so communication partners and educators can understand how to customize See and Say with confidence.
A video that shows all the different ways you can use See and Say, from modeling language and instant feedback to supporting routines, choice making, and meaningful classroom exploration.

While there are new features and a refreshed design, the heart of See and Say has not changed. All vocabulary remains the same as before, ensuring continuity for users who rely on Super Core every day. This update builds on what already works, rather than replacing it.
